Visiting New York

I recently returned from a fabulous trip to New York, and I couldn’t have had a better time!

One of the highlights of my trip was getting to play at the Duplex, a charming piano bar and live music venue in the West Village. I want to thank my niece, Kate Wolfe, and her musical partner Amanda Hunt, for inviting me to perform with them during their regular cabaret, “This is The City.” These young women are so talented and it was such fun to be on stage with them!

I also had the chance to meet up with my old friend, Christine Lavin, founder of The Four Bitchin’ Babes, who performed an online concert with me while we were there. It was great to sing with Christine again, and I was reminded about how much she makes me laugh and what a talented, funny songwriter she is.

Thank you so much to all of you who tuned in to the concert and listened to us as we played a few of our favorite songs in front of our laptop. It was a really fun, futuristic new experience for me, and I hope we get to do many more online concerts in the future.

Of course, that wasn’t all.

Christine and I were lucky enough to catch the opening of a new one-woman off-Broadway show called "My Mother Has Four Noses," starring the fabulous singer-songwriter Jonatha Brooke. The show was amazing, and it's been getting great reviews so far. If you're in New York any time soon, I definitely suggest checking it out.

Christine and I also had the chance to see Cyrille Aimee sing at Birdland Jazz Club, one of the most famous jazz venues in the world, located on the west side of Midtown Manhattan. The club originally opened in 1949 and featured jazz greats like Charlie Parker, Count Basie, and Symphony Sid Torin throughout the ’50s and early ’60s, then re-opened in 1989 ushering in a new era of great jazz.

Walking into this amazing venue, I felt as if I was being touched by all of the amazing musicians who have played here over the years, and I felt connected to music history.

Aimee’s concert was superb, and after the show, Christine introduced me to the club’s owner, Gianni Valenti, as well as singer William Blake and singer/comedienne Christine Pedi, which was such a treat.

Turns out, I’m soon going to be performing at Birdland myself. I was invited to participate in Jim Caruso’s Cast Party, a weekly cabaret variety show featuring up-and-coming singers as well as veteran singers. If you’re in New York, come check out the show on May 26!
