The show, which features 32 songs by John Prine, first originated at The Phoenix Theatre in Indianapolis, and then moved to Chicago, when I had the chance to join the cast of Tim Grimm, Jan Lucas, Tim Brickley, Heather Styka, Michael Shelton and Greg Ziesmer.
In the show, I sang many of Prine's most haunting and heartfelt songs, including
one of my favorites, "Sam Stone," and there was something really magical about
bringing those songs alive on stage.
At the time, the show received critical acclaim. The Chicago Reader called it, “soulful and gimmick-free,” and the Chicago Sun-Times said it was “highly
recommended.”
Now, "Pure Prine" is being remounted at the Old Town School of Folk Music on Sept. 8, and I am so excited to get back into the Prine groove.
I hope you’ll join me next Saturday for this amazing performance.
