I am here at my desk listening to an album by Daniel Nahmod. Who’s Daniel Nahmod? Just about the best New Thought/Positive/Inspirational singer-songwriter out there, that’s who. Oh, and the producer of my latest album, Breathe.
I started writing and performing what is now called Positive Music/New Thought Music in 1984. I had been singing folk/rock/pop for many years, and after going through some truly heart- and soul-breaking experiences in the music business, I had just moved back to Chicago from New York to do more theater, concerts, tour with a band I helped found, The Four Bitchin’ Babes, and study metaphysics.
Soon after I returned to Chicago, I was asked to play music at Unity on the North Shore in Evanston, IL. I loved the message I heard there, and I knew I’d found my spiritual home.
Almost 30 years later, Positive Music is just now becoming recognized. That is due in large part to the tireless efforts of two incredible music ministers, Richard Mekdeci and Sue K. Riley. They started Empower Music and Arts (www.empowerma.com), a community dedicated to creating positive global change through music, writing and the spoken word.
For the last several years, I have been taking part in PosiPalooza Tours, organized by Sue and Richard, which bring positive music to people all over the United States and Canada. Most recently, I took part in a PosiPalooza Tour to Florida and I want to thank Sue, Richard, and the three Unity Churches who hosted us -- Unity Vero Beach, Unity Orlando, and Unity of Melbourne – for the amazing time! I also want to thank Kelly Corsino and Jana Stanfield, who played with us, because “God spoils me,” as my song says.
I am so proud to be a member of the positive music tribe. Please check out the website and listen to some incredible music. And don’t forget who told you first!
